Freda W. Courtney, 91, surrounded by her loving children, heard her Lord call her name on Friday Oct. 3, 2025.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 6, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.  A private interment will be held at Bethany Cemetery.  The family will have a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. before the service at the church.

Freda was born in Marion County, the daughter of the late Alex and Retha Jane Bourne Watson.  She was an active member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.  Freda was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and the ladies missionary groups.  Bird watching was a favorite pastime for her.  She was an avid baseball fan always pulling for the Braves.  Her family was an important part of her life.  They voted her as one of the best cooks.  She married into military life and traveled to many areas of the country, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana and Savannah, Georgia.

She was married to the late Delano Courtney.

Surviving are her children, Michael Courtney; daughter, Linda Stephens, Tonya Williams, Paula (Bubba) Way; sister, Blanche Dew; and the love of life, six grandchildren, Brandon (Elizabeth) Stephens, Chase (Lindsey) Courtney, Abigail (Charlie) Reamer, Luke Way, Landon Way, Alison (Robert) Wilder and seven great-grandchildren, Ella, Jase, Dawson, Eli, Beckham, Georgia and Alice.  She is preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Wilcox Watson and two sisters, Verna Maude Goude and Altha Jane Johnson.

The family would like to thank her caregivers and the Staff of McLeod Hospice for the care of their mother during this time.
