IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frankie
Hodges
July 3, 2025
Mary Frances "Frankie" Hodges, age 70, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Frankie was widely known for her unwavering faith in Christ, her deep devotion to her family, and her joyful, generous spirit. She was a loving and faithful wife to Barry, a nurturing mother to her four sons, a fun and ever-present "GG" to her nine grandchildren, and a treasured friend to many.
Born on May 9, 1955, in Florence, South Carolina, Frankie was the daughter of the late George Melvin and Sarah Frances Adams McNeill. She accepted Christ at a young age and lived her life as a true servant of the Lord. She was a longtime, active member of St. Paul Church in Florence, where she faithfully attended Sunday School and women's Bible studies and she joyfully served.
Frankie was devoted to her family and loved them sacrificially. She was the cherished wife and partner of Barry Hodges since their marriage on October 3, 1980. Together they shared a beautiful life marked by laughter, adventure, and deep companionship. They enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, neighborhood golf cart rides, and time with their wide circle of beloved friends.
Frankie and Barry raised four sons with intention, love, and faith. Two went on to serve as United States Marines, one became a family physician, and one continues the multigenerational, family grocery business. She treasured family time together, always taking family photos, and her boys each reflected her gentleness, kindness, and love for others. Although she never had a daughter of her own, Frankie wholeheartedly embraced her daughters-in-law—past, present, and future—as her own. She delighted in shopping, cooking, and playing games with them, and built uniquely meaningful relationships with each.
As a grandmother, Frankie shone. She adored her grandchildren and was their biggest fan, traveling near and far to attend their school events, performances, and athletic competitions. She loved nothing more than to cheer them on and shower them with affection and encouragement.
Frankie's love of people was one of her defining qualities. She cultivated deep, lasting friendships in every season of life. Whether it was her St. Paul Sunday School classes over the decades, tennis and pickleball friends, Lamaze group, Bunko/GNO (Girls Night Out), birthday and supper clubs, or her treasured Adams, McNeill, Tanner, and Hodges cousins—Frankie loved deeply and loved well.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Barry Hodges of Florence, SC; two sons, Dr. Blake M. (Lindsay) Hodges of Greenwood, SC, and Landon T. (Brooke) Hodges of Florence, SC; and nine grandchildren, one of whom currently serves as an active-duty Marine. She is also survived by her beloved mother-in-law, Gladys Hodges. She was preceded in death by two sons, Barry Steven Hodges Jr. and Nicholas Ryan Hodges.
A service to celebrate Frankie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. In honor of the light and joy Frankie brought to so many, guests are encouraged to wear their brightest and happiest colors as we celebrate the sunshine she was in all our lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Church of Florence, 1629 W. Palmetto Street, Florence, SC 29501.
