Obituary

Florence - Eva Anna McAlister Eaddy, 103, passed away peacefully Friday, February 20, 2015, surrounded by her family at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.

Mrs. Eaddy was born on her family's farm near Hemingway in Williamsburg County. She was the daughter of the late Myers Jackson and Jeanette Hanna McAlister. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a strong lady, who loved gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed telling stories about events from her childhood and early married life, as well as sharing humorous expressions that will be passed on to future generations. Mrs. Eaddy especially cherished spending time with her two great- granddaughters, Katherine Baker Hanna and Elizabeth Eaddy Hanna.

Mrs. Eaddy became a charter member of the Hemingway First Baptist Church at the age of 13 and continued to love and support her church until her death. She was a member of Sara Eaddy's Sunday School Class and the First Baptist Church prayer group.

Eva was married to the late Ernest Gideon Eaddy.

Surviving are her daughter, Myrtle Ree Eaddy Hanna; granddaughter, Anne Marie Hanna; and grandson John Linwood (Sandy) Hanna, all of Florence. She is also survived by a grandson, Robert Jackson (Cheryl) Eaddy, Jr. of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Karen Elaine Eaddy Burns of Blythewood; and a granddaughter, Robyn Kathleen Eaddy of Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Eaddy had seven great-grandchildren; Katherine Baker Hanna, Elizabeth Eaddy Hanna, Sara Grace Eaddy, Anna Kathleen Eaddy, Brock Burns, Kari Burns, and Blake Burns. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Jackson Eaddy; three sisters, Edna Ivey McAlister, Lois McAlister Haselden and Mellie McAlister Haselden.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 23rd, at Hemingway First Baptist Church with visitation at the church immediately following the service. Interment will be held privately at Old Johnsonville Cemetery. Layton-Anderson Funeral Home will be in charge of the funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home, 1330 Queensferry Road, in Florence,Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
