Eugene Lee, 81, of Timmonsville, South Carolina, passed away on April 7, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 27, 1944, he was the son of Darby and Leola Lee and grew up in Timmonsville, where he formed the foundation of faith, family, and hard work that guided his life. He graduated from Southside High School in 1963.
Eugene dedicated 43 years of service to Smurfit Stone, where he worked as an Area Supervisor over Maintenance. He retired in 2007, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, loyalty, and respect from those who worked alongside him.
A man deeply committed to his community and his values; Eugene was a proud Freemason and a lifetime member of Benton Lodge No. 26 A.F.M. and a Noble of Omar Shriner’s. His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church.
In 1963, Eugene married the love of his life, Ann, and together they built a beautiful and loving family. His greatest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the steady presence, the quiet strength, and the gentle heart at the center of his family.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife Ann Lee; his son, Bishop Ronald Lee (Alicia); his daughter, Amber Lewis (Wayne); grandsons, Trey Streett (Theresa), Trent Streett, and Private Joseph Kirshy (U.S. Army); granddaughters, Makayla Lee and Courtney Lee; and his sisters, Margaret Lee Carter and Harriet Lee Ard (Glen). He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren, Tegan Streett, Tallen Streett, Timothy Streett, Harper Streett, and Victoria Allen; great- great-granddaughter Olivia Allen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Darby and Leola Lee, daughter Teresa L. Streett; brothers, Willard, Harry, Robert, and Rudolph Lee; and his sisters, Doris Lee Moore and Janie Lee Powers.
Eugene’s life was defined by devotion—to his faith, his family, his work, and his community. His legacy will continue in the lives of those he loved and the many people he touched with his kindness and steady spirit.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to support children in need through Shriners Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the Layton-Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
