Elsie H. Floyd, 89, passed peacefully at McLeod Hospital on May 6th surrounded by her family. Born February 2nd, 1937 in Sumter County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Julia Vernie Mooneyhan and granddaughter of the late Daniel W. and Martha Horton.
Elsie, or Elsie Jean when she wasn’t listening; loved flowers, gardening, women’s basketball (Go Gamecocks!), wrestling, her pets, Jimmy Dean biscuits, & most importantly, her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. Laverne Floyd, a son in law, Billy R. Johnson, & a brother, Wilbur McLeod.
She is survived by her children, Martha, William (Cherie), Leon (Lisa), & Danny; grandchildren, Kevin (BJ), Jennifer, Anna-Margaret (Bryant), Andrew (Katlin), Danielle, & Callie; one great-grand, Christopher; her brother, George Mooneyhan (Dovie), special family friend, Vivenne, aka "Vip," Perry; special daughter, Calina Floyd; as well as man
y adored nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in honor of her son in law or to your local humane society.
A graveside service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2170 Trinity Rd Lynchburg, SC 29080, on Saturday May 9th at 1 PM followed by a visitation at the Trinity Community Center. The Directors of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home are caring for the family.
