***Important Service Change*** Due to the recent inclement weather, the previously planned graveside service for Ellen Register will now be a chapel service at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 p.m., Monday February 2, 2026. The family will still receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be held at Florence Memorial Gardens at a later time.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Ellen Truluck Register, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25th, 2026, at the age of 89. Ellen was born on Saturday, July 25th, 1936, in Lynchburg SC. She was the daughter of the late Carl Darby Truluck and Mary Lee Segars Truluck. Ellen was a cherished resident of Florence, SC, where she lived surrounded by her family and friends.
She was a proud graduate of St. John's High School in Darlington, S.C., Ellen had a zest for life, often found traveling to new places, diving into a good book, or engaging in her beloved puzzles and crafts. Her skills in sewing and crocheting were well-known, and her passion for music and dancing brought joy to many gatherings. Above all, Ellen held family gatherings close to her heart, creating cherished memories that will last for generations.
Ellen is survived by her sons, Darby Wayne Register and Derrick Lynn (Kim) Register, She was also a loving grandmother to Michael Register, Charlie (Christina) Shealy, Chris Register, Ashley (Adrian) Hahey, and Sherri Register, as well as a great-grandmother to Reese Register, Braden Tedder, AJ Hahey, Jessie Amerson, and great-great-grandmother to Bryson Tedder. Her beloved sister, Mary Truluck Byrd, special nephew, Bobby (Angelia) Truluck, and special nieces, Judy Shokes and Robin Long also survive her, alongside her special friend, Barbara Walsh.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents listed above; her son, Laurie Randall Register; daughters-in-law, Sadie and Lisa Register; and her brothers, Carroll Truluck, E.J. Truluck, and Bobby Ray Truluck.
