Florence- Dwight Henry Hyman 89, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 in a local Hospice facility.
A funeral service will be Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will speak to those attending after the service.
Mr. Hyman was born in Pamplico, SC, the son of the late Henry and Minnie Miles Hyman. After graduation he joined the US Army. He was a demolition specialist, clearing mine fields and repairing bridges. He was stationed in England, France, Germany and East Africa. Dwight received the Good Conduct medal, 3 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked with Trailways Bus line. Dwight worked in a North Carolina Sheriff's Dept as Personnel Director. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Florence, the Roy Graham Sunday School Class and the Adult Choir. He was a member of Amity Lodge #340,York Rite Temple,Omar Shrine of Charleston and volunteered with Cooks for Christ.
He was married to the late Clara Elizabeth "Lib" Hyman.
Survivors are two children, Dwight Glenn (Amanda) Hyman, Debra Kay Manning of all Fayetteville, NC; a brother, Larry Hyman, Johnsonville and grand-children, April Reed,Cassie Hyman, Michele Hyman, David Lacy Bernard and his 1st great-grandchild, Emily. He also is survived by his very special friend of many years, Betty Hunsinger of Latta. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Hanna, Elizabeth Haselden and Jackie Brown.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 176 Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
