Obituary

Florence, SC - Donald Franklin Lowe, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on January 28, 2015 under the loving care of Naoma and Agape Hospice. Visitation will be from 6 - 8:00p.m. January 30, 2015 at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Services will be held at the Florence Baptist Temple at 1:00 p.m. January 31, 2015 with burial at Florence Memorial Gardens.

Don was born in Union, SC to the late Simeon Doyle Lowe and Sarah Gregory Lowe. He was an Eagle Scout, in the ROTC during his 4 years at USC, and graduated from the Medical College of VA as a Physical Therapist in 1956. He practiced in Indianapolis, IN, and in Thomasville, GA. before coming to the Florence office of Dr's. Dawson and Stader in 1961. Don treated office patients at the three local hospitals and the Crippled Children's Clinic.

In 1969 he started Lowe's Physical Therapy in his new building at W. Cheves St., which is the oldest existing private practice in SC. He continued serving all hospitals in the area, Florence County Home Health, nursing homes, school systems as well as his private patients. His son Phillip, joined the practice in 1982 and expansions began in nearby towns with expanded staff. Don founded Lowe's Rehabilitation in the mid '80's and his son David joined in. He assisted his daughter Susan with the purchase of Southern Brides moving it to W. Palmetto St. His son Steven, remodeled a portion of the building and opened Cowboy's Corner Western Wear. Steven continues managing his rental properties. Don's grandchildren, Deanna and Kristen, are following in his footsteps and continuing his legacy.

Don retired in 1989. Don's love for God and family showed in his hobbies. These included, Boy Scout Leader, Scuba Instructor, sailing, water sports, rock hounding, line and ball room dancing. He played on Saturday but was in church on Sundays. He served as deacon at First Baptist and as an usher at Florence Baptist Temple. He was a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He and Naoma spent their retirement years serving in Foreign and Home Missions, in disaster relief after Hugo and Katrina, sailing the Bahamas, and RVing western states.

Surviving includes Naoma, his wife of 60 years, children, David (Brenda) Lowe, Phillip (Ashley) Lowe , Steven (Ann)Lowe, Susan (Steven) Fogner; grandchildren, David Jr. (Sheri) Lowe, Daniel (Trystina) Lowe, Deanna (Daniel) Smith, Derek Lowe, Kristen Lowe, Hunter Lowe, Drake Lowe, Abby Reeves, Ross Reeves, Sean Fogner, Chris Fogner, Morgan Fogner, Elizabeth Fogner; three great-grandchildren, George, Bethany and Joseph Lowe; brother, Simeon Doyle (Ollie) Lowe Jr. of Boulder City, NV, sister-in-law Wilberta Webb of Jerseyville, IL, nieces, nephews and cousins.
