David J. Nutting (79), of Little River, South Carolina, passed away on March 13, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina.

He was born in Midland, Michigan on July 18, 1944 to Dr. Howard S. and Margaret (Harvey) Nutting. After graduating from Midland High School in 1962, he attended Laurel Crest Academy in Bristol, Connecticut for one year. It was during his year at Laurel Crest that he met Wanda L. Marrero, and married her. He went on to earn a B.A. in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Michigan State University in 1969. His career in hotel management led him to live in Kansas, Missouri and Texas. Though his marriage ended in 1973 after having two children together, he and Wanda remained amicable after the divorce. Dave eventually changed careers and moved back to Midland, Michigan before retiring at the age of 45 in Little River, South Carolina. Dave spent his retirement years pursuing many interests. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hawking golf balls as much as he enjoyed swinging the clubs. He took an interest in the local beach music and learned how to dance The Shag, although he proclaimed to be "no good at it". He became notorious for getting up at the crack of dawn to be the first one to arrive at yard and estate sales. He had a passion for buying and selling antiques, and became quite good at it. To no one's surprise, he purchased a Harley Davidson and rode it with a local motorcycle group called Old Coots on Scoots. In his later years he began volunteering his time at local animal shelters, walking the dogs and petting the cats. He had a great love for animals, especially for his own cats throughout the years.

Dave is survived by his brother Hugh Nutting of Montana, his daughter Margaret (Margee) Nutting of Florida, and his two grandchildren, Gilbert and Felix, also of Florida. Dave was predeceased by his parents, and his son, Alan H. Nutting.

There are no plans to hold a memorial service at this time. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
