Effingham, SC – Curley Lee Nettles, 86, passed into his eternal home on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

Funeral services will be Sunday, February 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethsaida United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow at McLaughlin Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Nettles was born in Florence County, the son of the late Zingle Lee Nettles and Annie Matthews Nettles.  He served his country in the US Army for two years and followed with six years of service in the National Guard.  He was a retired Supervisor with Overnite Truck Company for 20 years.  His greatest passion was farming and working outdoors.  He was an active member of Bethsaida United Methodist Church. He served as Trustee, former Sunday School Superintendent, lead the choir and enjoyed playing his guitar. He was member of the Woodmen of the World.  He was instrumental in putting up Christmas decorations for many years for people to drive through and enjoy at his home.

He was first married to the late Beatrice Coward Nettles.

Surviving are; his wife Mary Galloway Nettles; daughter, Bea Ann (James) Holloman; step-sons, Ricky Jones, Jimmy Jones; step-daughter, Angela Lee; brothers, Raydine (Lena) Nettles, Elton Nettles; sister, Annie "Candy" Hanna; grandchildren, Jamie (Brooke) Holloman, two great-grandchildren, Leah and Aubrey Holloman; a special nephew, Wayne (Donna) Lawhon, and step-grands, Hailey and Kayla Lee. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Homer Nettles and Veron Nettles; 2 sisters, Ivanelle Lawhon and Connie Godwin.
