IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cornie Lee
Sweatt
December 5, 1968 – December 7, 2025
Mr. Cornie Lee Sweatt, 57, entered into rest on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Born in Gaffney, South Carolina, he was the son of William T. Sweatt and the late Elizabeth Norris Sweatt. He proudly served his country as a military veteran, beginning with four years in the United States Navy as a sonar technician aboard the USS Deyo (DD-989). He later enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving with the 133rd MP Unit in Florence as a military policeman. During his enlistment, he completed a tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving at Camp Delta in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
After his military service, he continued a life dedicated to duty and protection. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections after serving as a correctional officer at Lee Correctional Institution. Most recently, he was employed with MUSC Florence as a security officer.
Cornie had a deep love for old cars, antiquing, camping, and Saturday morning cartoons. He enjoyed playing the Wii and Nintendo Switch, often turning simple moments into laughter. To know Cornie was to love him—his warm spirit, sense of humor, and famously "corniest" jokes could brighten any day. He was always eager to lift the spirits of others and had a gift for making people smile.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his sons, Thomas Lee Sweatt and William Allen Hinchcliffe (Maddison); the mother of his sons, Jamie Sweatt; brothers, William T. Sweatt II (Anne) and Bruce Sweatt (Wendy); sister, Kelly LeVine (Jeff); nephews, Blake Sweatt (Lexie), Brady Sweatt, Logan Sweatt, Caleb Morgan, Jacob LeVine (Austyn), Dylan Collins (Summer), and Banks LeVine; niece, EmmaGrace Morgan (Hunter); great-nephew, Dean; and great-niece, Lilah.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Florence National Cemetery.
