IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chrissy Rainwater
Conner
January 17, 2016
The family of Madge Leila Christelle (Chrissy) Rainwater Conner of Florence regrets to inform the community of her passing on Sunday, January 17th , 2016, after suffering a heart attack. Chrissy was born on March 24, 1953 at McLeod Infirmary in Florence to Leila Drake Rainwater and the late A. J. Rainwater, Jr. She graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1971, and subsequently studied at Columbia College and the University of South Carolina, earning an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1974. In 1970, Chrissy made what she viewed as the most important decision in her life, that of accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior and endeavoring to follow Him for the remainder of her days. On the sweltering summer Saturday of August 9, 1975, Chrissy entered into a blessed and felicitous marriage with the love of her life, Darrell L. Conner, Jr. at First Baptist Church in Florence. Chrissy and Darrell lived as one, loyal to one another while facing the joys and difficulties of the ensuing years, during both the good and challenging times that life presents and which are common to all. To this union, three sons were born: Darrell L. Conner III, James Drake Conner and Christopher Rainwater Conner. These sons were a long term source of great love, joy and pride in her life. Her sons absolutely adored her. Chrissy was a beautifully talented and charming extrovert with a magnetic personality that always attracted many. Our Chrissy genuinely loved people of all social, racial and economic backgrounds. She was given to creating a social event, a meeting of friends, or a party at a moment's notice and was most happy when around others. She was definitely not a woman given to solitude. Due to her engaging manner, she would easily become the unwitting center of any gathering, making all around her feel her sense of celebration and joy. When Chrissy showed up, it was time to put melancholy moods and petty complaints aside and "let the good times begin." She was sincerely one of the world's most positive people in attitude and manner. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in one's life manifests itself in one's conduct, but in certain individuals that Spirit shines forth and one sees its radiance in the smile and the light in the eyes. Such a person was Chrissy Conner. Chrissy is survived by her loving husband, Darrell L. Conner, Jr. of Florence and her three sons, Dal, Drake and Christopher. She temporarily leaves behind her beloved mother Leila Drake Rainwater, her brother and sister in law, Avie J. Rainwater III and Karen Gadberry Rainwater and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a limitless multitude of close and dear friends. All the aforementioned are devastated by this irreplaceable and painful temporary loss, temporary because they believe they will see her again. God's work continues in the world and Chrissy's Christian influence in her home and in the community will be felt long into the future. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1021 S. Ebenezer Rd, Florence, SC, 29501, on Sunday, January 24th at four o'clock. Visitation will be prior to the service at 3:00 or other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Pee Dee Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 1826 Devonshire Rd, Florence, SC 29505 or OM Ships, 781 St Andrews Road, Florence, SC 29501.
