Florence, SC – Charles William Hammond, Jr. passed away on Sunday evening Oct. 1, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sardis Baptist Church cemetery. The family will speak to those attending after the service.

Charles was born in Florence County, the son of the late Charles W. and Merita Benton Hammond. He was a member Sardis Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed competition in the special Olympics, winning many medals and awards. He was an avid race car fan and living in the Sardis community, Cale Yarborough was his favorite driver. His hobby was taking pictures. He had a passion for police, fire and EMS vehicles.

Surviving are many cousins and special family friends, Gene and Mona Collins. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Belinda Ann Hammond and his brother, Cary Eli Hammond.

For the care and love shown to Charles, expressions of Thanks are extended to the staff of the Disabilities and Special Needs, the staff of Commander Nursing Home, McLeod Hospice and the staff of the Intensive Care Unit of McLeod Hospital.
