Florence, SC - Charles Edward Grooms, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bamberg, he was the son of the late Hebron and Eva Boyd Grooms.

Charles proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, where he exemplified the values of honor, courage, and commitment retiring from the South Carolina Military Department as a Major General. Charles continued his commitment to public service as a warden with the South Carolina Department of Corrections at the Palmer Pre-Release Center. A man of faith, Charles served as a minister within the Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 50 years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Betty R. Grooms; two daughters, Cherrie Simon (Steve), and Evie Smith (Clif); three grandchildren, Kimi Knight (Josh), Joseph Simon (Mackenzie), and Spencer Smith; two great-grandchildren, Henry Knight and Jack Knight.

The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.

A private service will be held to honor his life.
