Charles Heyward Bruton, 82, went home to meet his Savior on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Funeral services will be Thursday, at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, Florence.  The family will speak to those attending after the service.  A private burial will take place at a later time.

Charles was born on February 21,1943 in Florence, SC.   He was one of eight children of Jimmy Commander Bruton and Helen Marie Prevatte Bruton.   He deeply loved his family.

He had spent much of his life in Petersburg, VA, working at Lighthouse Furniture and other odd jobs.  Those that knew him would affectionately call him Kenny Rogers, and he was known for his big personality.  He loved to dance, sing, and laugh, and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  In his later years, he returned home to Florence, SC, and could often be found at home watching older movies and listening to preaching on his bedside radio.

He is survived by his daughter Brandy (Bobbi) Burgess-Bruton and son Dustin (Ashley) Bruton, as well as his sister Dorothy "Dot" Lynch and his best friend Andy Harper; grandson, Teddy Bruton and nieces and nephews close to his heart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy C "Jimp", Tommy, Cecil, and Jack, and sister Francis "Jannette" O'Neil.
