Timmonsville, SC – Charlene Lynette Matthews, 74, passed away on Dec. 26, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Oates Baptist Church, 3569 Oates Hwy, Lamar,SC 29069,Oates,SC at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Florence, SC. The family will have a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Charlene was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Robert and Dorthea Budd.
She attended Oates Baptist Church. She was a big supporter of the Humane Society, ASPCA and various Veterans organizations. Charlene was honorably discharged from the US Air Force and the Army Reserve. She was retired as caregiver with Pee Dee Mental Health Center.
She was married to the late Jimmie Lee Matthews, who passed away in 2014.
Survivors are two sons, Timothy Matthews, Andrew (Amanda) Matthews; three daughters,Susan (Joseph) Bonfitto, Kimberly (Alan) Vetal, Pamela (Chad) Smith; two brothers, Robert (Bettie) Budd, Michael (Diana) Budd and nine grandchildren, Nicholas Matthews, Anthony Humel, Francesca and Gianna Bonfitto, Taylor and Sydney Vetal, Madison Smith, Stokes and Piper Matthews. She is preceded in death by a son, Marc Matthews.
