Bobby J. Melton, 82, transitions to his heavenly home early Thursday morning, Feb. 15, 2024.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Florence Memorial Gardens.  The family will speak to those attending after the service.

Mr. Melton was born in Columbus County, North Carolina, the son of the late Preston Melton and the late Leola Harrellson Melton.  He was a member of the Florence Baptist Temple.  Before his retirement Bobby was a Yard Foreman with CSX Railroad.  He served his country in the US Navy.  Bobby was a member of the Patriots Guard in the Florence area.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Linda Darnell Buffkin Melton; two sons, Rocky Joe (Joelle) Melton, Stoney Dale Melton; daughter, Regina Lynn (Duyane) Calcutt; sister, Betty Jean Strickland; nine grandchildren, John Preston Melton, Hunter (Hailey) Melton, Austin Trent (Mykayla) Melton, Autumn Breanne Melton, Tyler (Lindsey) Calcutt, Ashley Calcutt, Sierra (Nate) Cusack, Kirsten (Blain Priest) Calcutt, Julia Calcutt;  five great-grandchildren, Koa, Titus, Stetson, Tyson and Meridia.   He is preceded in death by a daughter, Ashley Melton, two brothers, David and Ray Melton.
