Lynchburg, SC - William D. "Billy" Atkinson, Sr. 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023 in a local hospice facility.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lynchburg, SC.  Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.  The family will speak to those attending beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Atkinson was born in Lynchburg, SC, the son of the late Lever Elias and Sadie Katherine Byrd Atkinson. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  Billy was involved in the banking industry for many years before turning his interest to owning a car dealership.  He was a Mason, former deacon of the church, member of the Lynches River Supper Club, chairman of The Sherwood Center and served on the school board of Hudgens Academy for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years Christine Jordan; son, William Chance (Rachael) Atkinson; brother, Bobby Wayne Atkinson; niece, Vivian (Scott) Williams; grandchildren, Amelia Gibbs (Carson Lee) Coker, Bailey Atkinson (Hayes) Goodson, Garrett (Macey) Gibbs, Dylan Atkinson, Hampton Beard, Mary Logan Atkinson; great grandchildren, Lynlee Coker, Eloise Goodson.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Candace Atkinson Gibbs.
