Betty Jane Ranson, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, while surrounded by her three sons. Betty Jane, known by many as "BJ" was the daughter of the late Gladwyn and Margaret Edwards Mothershead, of King George, Virginia. Betty was a graduate of the University of Virginia, receiving her degree in Nursing. She was married to the late Walter Ranson for 62 years at the time of his death in 2017. BJ supported her husband in his career, and raised her 3 children, while living in Europe. Upon returning to the states, she renewed her RN license. In 2004 she was inducted into the UVA Thomas Jefferson Society of Alumni. She obtained 2000 hours of volunteer service for McLeod Regional Medical Center. Her persistence and determination became a virtue of the Ranson generations she helped to raise. She loved genealogy. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf and working in her garden. Later in life she took up painting. Her family was blessed with BJs extraordinary caring, kindness, and consideration for others; with her joy in the small things; with her wit and creativity; and with her love and laughter. Surviving are three sons, Andy (Dioni) Ranson, Don (Amanda) Ranson, Carlton (Jamie) Ranson; sister, Barbara Jean Hill; and 2 grandchildren, as well as 12 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 524 S. Ebenezer Rd, Florence, SC 29501. The family will receive friends and celebrate BJ's life with a service to be held at 11 am on April 26, 2025 in the chapel at The Manor, 2100 Twin Church Rd, Florence, SC.
