Betty Stokes Cottingham, 92, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025.
Graveside services will be Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. in the Lynchburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery. There will be a brief visitation after the service at the cemetery.
Betty was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late James Cephas and Miriam Dougherty Stokes. Betty was a graduate of Coker College. She was retired from the Department of Transportation as a Clerk. Betty enjoyed working in her yard, watching flowers and plants grow. She was a member of Lynchburg United Methodist Church. She was active in the Women's Missions of the church, other interests were working and serving in the Lynchburg American Legion Auxiliary.
She was married to the late J.D. Cottingham.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Jerry) Bailey; grandchildren, Kate (Lee) Bryant, Elizabeth Ward and three great grandchildren, Gavin, Jacob and Eden; other family, Penny Tallon, Patrick and Jenny McGee; several nieces and nephews; her feline companion, Angel. She is preceded in death by a son, Michael Tomlinson and a brother, James Stokes.
