J P Windham Obituary

J P “Jake” Windham, age 85, a lifelong resident of Lynchburg passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019.  He was born in Atkins to Jackson Andrew and Lessie Mae Carter Windham who have preceded him in death.  He was a farmer and worked the family farm for many years. After retiring from farming, he worked at Henderson Ace Hardware in Hartsville, SC where he was affectionately known as “Uncle Jake” and customers asked for him by name.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lynchburg where he served as Sunday School teacher, song leader, and deacon. He always had a sense of humor and a positive attitude. As a child, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and studied the scriptures daily.  He was a strong man of faith and was beloved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Beasley Windham, his children Nancy (Bill) Huggins and John (Heidi) Windham and son-in-law Marion Scott.  His daughter, Donna Windham Scott preceded him in death. He also has 5 grandchildren: Amanda (Dustin) Dickman, Ashley Scott, Marion Scott Jr, J.P. Windham, and Jackson Windham. He has three step-great grandchildren: Dakota Dickman, Gracie Dickman and Mason Dickman. He also preceded in death by a step-great grandson Hunter Dickman. His sister Marilyn (Wylie) Hodge and brother Jerry (Lib) Windham also survive him.  He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.  He loved his family and friends and it became especially important to him in his last days as he caught a glimpse of Heaven that everyone come to know Christ and follow Him.
