Gladys Streett Obituary

Gladys Streett, 88, of Florence, passed away on September 30, 2018 due to natural causes.

Mrs. Streett was born in Williamsburg County near Hemingway, SC on June 5, 1930 to Verdie L. and Mildred (Perry) Tanner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Edwin D. Streett, brothers Dick Tanner and Tom Tanner and son-in-law, Julius Thompson.

She is survived by her loving children Edwin D. Streett, Jr. (Barbara) of Macon, GA, G. Diane Thompson of Florence, James H. Streett II (Tricia) of Florence, and Michael L. Streett of Florence; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Walker, Christi Thompson, Marshall Streett,Davis Streett and Claire (Derek) Cramer;  two great-grandchildren, Marshall Walker and Julien Walker. She is also survived by siblings, Estelle Tanner, Marguerite Jirak, Dozier Tanner, Harry Tanner, and Louie Tanner.

She was a 1947 graduate of Hemingway High School. She was a proud retiree from the catalog department at J.C. Penney in Florence after 27 years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of Highland Park Methodist Church.

Mrs. Streett was a gracious, loving and caring wife, mother, and homemaker always putting her family ahead of herself. She was always known as Miss Gladys to those that knew and met her due to her bright smile and friendly demeanor. She will always be remembered for her unselfish devotion to her family, her kind heart, generous spirit, and loving nature. The Christmas holidays were especially important to her every year where she looked forward to all of the festive activities including cooking large meals, the giving of presents to her family, and spending time with all of her loved ones. 

A graveside service will be Wednesday Oct. 3, 2018 at 11:15 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence.  A time of visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.
