Barry D. Crocker
Timmonsville, SC – Barry Dean Crocker, 86, passed away on Oct. 15, 2018.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Florence National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. The family will have a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Crocker was born in Lockhart, SC in Union County, the son of the late Ray and Frances Harris Crocker. He was a 1954 graduate of Clemson University where he played short stop for Clemson’s first ACC Championship Baseball Team. He was a member of Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame and Union County Hall of Fame.
Mr. Crocker retired from the U. S. Army and National Guard with forty years of service ranked as a Full Bird Colonel but retired as a Brigadier General. He also retired from Wellman Industries in Johsonville as Plant Manager of the Wool Division. He loved his Lord, his family, Clemson ball and reading the bible. He was a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Jane Cusaac Crocker; a son, Barry (Donna Ann) Crocker, Jr; two daughters, Jill (Steve) Lewis, Staci (Nick) Lyerly; two brothers, Jim (Joyce) Crocker, Larry Crocker; a sister, Karen (Paul) Inman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Very special to his heart were his six grandchildren, Cayce (Ryan) Coker, Amanda (Jeremy) Ghent, Braeden Crocker, Jon Lewis, Raygan (Chad) Grier, Jacob Lyerly and nine great-grandchildren, Brittan, Jaxon, Seth, McCade, Easton, Camden, MorgynJaine, Hadley Dean and Kyson. He is preceded in death by a brother, Ray Crocker, Jr.
